SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - State university students will meet in Saratoga Springs this weekend to discuss requirements that college applicants reveal criminal histories.

Members of the SUNY Student Assembly will meet Saturday to discuss banning the practice of making applicants check a box if they have a criminal history. Advocates involved with the “ban the box” movement claim the question is unfair and erects a barrier to higher education.

Defenders of the question say college administrators have a responsibility to make informed choices about the students coming to their school.
