BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The man arrested in connection with a shooting that left two Southern University students dead has been arrested again for trying to leave the area.

Multiple media outlets report court documents show 22-year-old Ernest Felton was arrested Thursday for leaving the jurisdiction Wednesday while free on $90,000 bond without court permission.

Annette January of Gary, Indiana, and Lashuntae Benton of Lake Charles, were killed and a third person was shot at an apartment complex on Sunday. Investigators said Felton allegedly exchanged gunfire with a 24-year-old man who was injured and the 19-year-old women were caught in the crossfire.

Felton faces an attempted second-degree murder charge and illegal use of a weapon in connection with the gunfire that injured the man. No one has been arrested in the students’ deaths.
