COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina is celebrating the opening of a new center that will focus on research with industry partners such as IBM.

University President Harris Pastides is joining IBM executives at the opening of the new Center for Applied Innovation and Analytics at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The new center is to be located in a recently completed building at the corner of Blossom and Assembly Streets. It is expected to house collaborative research efforts between the university and IBM, as well as with other industry partners.

When the collaboration was first announced in 2014, it was described as helping expand student skills in information technology and improve their employment chances for IT careers.
