LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a worker was critically injured after suffering a high impact hit while working on a sign in front of a convenience store near the Las Vegas Strip.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said the man was found 7 a.m. Wednesday hanging from the basket of a bucket truck. He was unconscious and hospitalized in critical condition.
Emergency crews rescued him by disconnecting a safety device that held him up and then lowering him down.
Officials said it appears that he was working on the Circle K sign on Las Vegas Boulevard just north of the Strip when the bucket quickly retracted down.
That would have caused an impact similar to that of a fast-moving car hitting a pole.
The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
