LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A site in south Arkansas is one of two places a Chinese company is considering building a $1.36 billion paper mill.

Arkansas Economic Development Commission executive director Mike Preston says Shandong Sun Paper Industry Joint Stock Co. is also looking at a site in Mississippi for its pulp mill.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/23KB939 ) reports that the mill’s production capacity would be 700,000 tons of pulp annually, which means it would harvest 3 million tons of timber per year.

The company said in November that it wanted to build the mill in south Arkansas and that it expected to select a site by May 1.

Preston says he expects a site to be chosen this summer. He said he believes that incentives from each state will likely be comparable.
