AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say an inmate who died this week after corrections officers found him unconscious in his northeast Ohio jail cell had complained of chest pains.

The Summit County Medical Examiner says 39-year-old Antonio Daniel complained of chest pains Monday night and Tuesday morning in the county jail in Akron.

Authorities say medical personnel determined Daniel, who had been on dialysis, was OK. He refused to take medication and didn’t eat breakfast Tuesday morning.

A deputy found Daniel unresponsive around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities say the deputy and jail medical staff tried to resuscitate Daniel until emergency crews arrived and took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead about a half-hour later.

The investigation continues into the death of the inmate earlier identified by sheriff’s officials as Antonio Daniels.
