GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - The family of a woman killed in a police chase in Cherokee County last year is suing the city of Gaffney.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg (https://bit.ly/1TVECsM ) reported that the family of Lori Michelle Walker has sued, saying a Gaffney police officer should have stopped the chase that led to her death.

The 38-year-old Walker died last May 8 as a police officer chased a motorcycle that she was riding. The driver, 29-year-old Roger Kirby, died several days later.

The Walker family’s attorney, Pat Knie, said the police pursuit was dangerous and should never have taken place. Knie said the circumstances did not justify a chase.

Gaffney City Attorney James Taylor said he could not comment on a pending lawsuit.
