FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A new production by the Flint Youth Theatre seeks to explore questions such as what defines a city like Flint and what makes a place a home.
“The Most (Blank) City in America” opens Saturday and runs through May 1.
The play is written by Andrew Morton, the organization’s playwright-in-residence, and directed by FYT’s Executive Artistic Director Jeremy Winchester.
Morton and a team of researchers and artists worked to create the play throughout the past year. As part of the creative process, they held events across Flint where residents and community members could gather to share their thoughts and feelings.
The play was created amid the city’s crisis with lead-tainted water that has drawn increased attention to Flint, which is widely known for its economic struggles.
