GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - The Grand Rapids Symphony has raised $40 million for its endowment as part of a campaign that started in 2012.

The Legacy of Excellence Campaign began with a $20 million commitment from Richard and Helen DeVos. The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1XzqkgI ) it received an additional $20 million in pledges and promises from 150 individuals, couples, corporations and foundations.

Dottie Johnson, co-chair of the campaign and an orchestra board member, says it’s “a major milestone in our ongoing work to attract and retain exceptional musicians while keeping our orchestra’s concerts and educational programs affordable.”

Investment revenue is expected to contribute about $2 million annually to the orchestra.

The Grand Rapids Symphony produces nearly 50 different programs and gives about 130 concerts per season, both free and ticketed.
