NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - An inmate has been sentenced for his role in a deadly riot at an Adams County prison in 2012.

U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis’ office said in a statement that 39-year-old Hiasom Ali was sentenced Tuesday to 51 months in federal prison. U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis says Ali was also ordered to pay more than $1,390,000 in restitution.

Officials say one correctional officer was killed and several other correctional officers were assaulted in the May 2012 riot at the Adams County Correctional Facility.

Other correctional officers were held hostage for several hours by the rioters.

The damaged to the facility totaled more than $1,305,000.

Ali and eight others pleaded guilty to the rioting charge in 2014.
