NEW YORK (AP) - A Harlem man has been convicted of killing an 18-year-old man and conspiring with his gang to kill members of rival groups.
A jury found 20-year-old Taylonn Murphy guilty on Thursday of murder, conspiracy and related offenses in the killing of Walter Sumter.
Authorities say Murphy had gone to a party in December 2011 with members of his gang, 3 Staccs, and challenged Sumter to a fight. Two witnesses testified that Murphy shot and killed Sumter, a rival gang member, outside the party.
Sumter had posted a video two weeks before he died mocking Murphy’s sister, who was killed earlier that year.
Murphy was among more than 100 men indicted as part of a gang takedown.
He faces 25 years to life behind bars when he’s sentenced June 24.
