NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - New Britain police have launched an animal cruelty investigation after the burned remains of a cat were found on a road.
Police say they received a report about the dead animal on Bingham Street at 12:30 a.m. Friday. They say the animal had burns over much of its body.
Police say they are investigating it as a possible case of serious animal cruelty, but do not know whether the animal was alive when it was burned.
They say it is possible the cat was already dead and the remains were set on fire or the animal became caught in the engine of a car.
They say there have been no similar incidents in the city.
