NEW YORK (AP) - New York Post Editor-in-Chief Col Allan says he will retire at the end of the month.

The Post (https://nyp.st/1Sdg10d ) says it has appointed Sunday editor Stephen Lynch to succeed Allan starting May 1.

The executive chairman of News Corp., Rupert Murdoch, says Allan has sought, “without ego or envy,” to hold the powerful accountable, “assail corruption” and have a positive impact in New York and beyond.

Allan said the job has been “an enormous privilege.”

He joined News Corp. in 1974 and became the top editor at the Post in 2001. Previously he was editor of The Daily Telegraph in Sydney, Australia.
