PHOENIX (AP) - State transportation officials say a section of Interstate 17 in northern Arizona will be closed later this month for overnight work.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says crews will start work Sunday to reduce the potential for rock to fall on a quarter-mile stretch of I-17 near McGuireville.

The nightly closures will take place for up to 30 minutes between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The closures will only be in the northbound lanes and will last until April 29.

Motorists who plan to travel on I-17 during those hours should allow for extra time for the intermittent closures.

Vehicles with oversize loads wider than 12 feet will be directed to a detour around the project area.
