PERRY, Ga. (AP) - A Houston County high school student has been accused of bringing an unloaded small handgun to school earlier this week.

Houston County Schools Communications Director Beth McLaughlin tells news outlets that Perry High School officials and the school’s resource officer found the gun Tuesday inside a student’s bag after receiving a tip.

Police say the weapon was confiscated and the student, a minor, was immediately arrested.

McClaughlin says they sent a call notification to parents about the gun on Tuesday.
