DETROIT (AP) - The Salvation Army has a new addition to its vehicle fleet in Michigan that’s designed to improve disaster response.

The canteen vehicle is a 2016 Transit cargo van that was donated by Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. and customized by Livonia-based Technosports. It’s being unveiled Friday in Detroit by The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division’s Emergency Disaster Services.

Volunteers will use the vehicle to provide food and beverages, blankets, clothing and comfort following major disasters.

The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division has more than a dozen canteen vehicles that are available to respond to emergencies.
