TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - A 19-year-old man injured earlier this week in a shootout with police has been accused of trying to sexually assault a woman earlier that night and previously raping another woman.

Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Capt. Gary Hood tells news outlets Nicholas Bailey II fired upon police Tuesday night who were investigating a woman’s report that a man broke into her apartment and tried to assault her.

Police say Bailey shot at them, prompting officers to shoot hit him in his arm and leg. No officers were injured.

Bailey was released from a hospital Thursday afternoon and arrested under numerous charges, including two counts of attempted rape and two counts of attempted murder.

Bailey has also been charged in a March 16 sexual assault. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
