WARSAW, N.Y. (AP) - Three Attica prison inmates have been charged in the stabbing death of another inmate inside the maximum-security facility last year.
Wyoming County District Attorney Donald O’Geen on Friday announced the unsealing of an indictment charging 35-year-old Shawn Avery, 33-year-old Bruce Battle and 22-year-old Devin Gray with second-degree murder and conspiracy.
They’re accused of fatally stabbing Rodney Calloway in the heart during a recreational period in the “A’’ yard of Attica Correctional Facility on May 8.
Authorities say the defendants are scheduled to appear in Wyoming County Court on June 1 after being assigned lawyers on Thursday.
State prison records show Avery is imprisoned for manslaughter. Battle is serving time for burglary and Grey for a weapons conviction. The 26-year-old Calloway had been imprisoned for robbery and assault.
