LONOKE, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a 2-year-old Lonoke County boy has drowned after falling into a burn pit filled with water from thunderstorms that recently swept through Arkansas.

Lonoke County Lt. Matt Edwards said that deputies responded to the scene Thursday and found family members performing CPR on the boy, who wasn’t breathing. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/25BS49X ) reports that the boy was airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say that investigators determined the boy, who has not been identified, had been outside feeding livestock with family members when he fell into the pit. Edwards said that the exact depth of the pit cannot be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation, but he said that it “wasn’t that deep.”
