COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - Funeral services were held Saturday for a woman who was killed in a fiery interstate crash that also killed two Des Moines police officers and another driver.
A crowd of family and friends gathered to mourn 32-year-old Tosha Nicole Hyatt, of Des Moines, during her funeral and burial in Council Bluffs, the Daily Nonpareil reported (https://bit.ly/1SJqmRz ).
Hyatt was in a police SUV, being transported from Council Bluffs to Des Moines on an arrest warrant, when the crash occurred March 26. Des Moines police officers Susan Farrell and Carlos Puente-Morales, and Benjamin Beary of Knoxville, the driver of the other vehicle involved, were also killed.
Police have said Beary’s vehicle was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 80 when the crash occurred west of Des Moines.
The Rev. Joe Laughlin of Victory Church in Omaha, Nebraska, which Hyatt attended as a child, officiated and thanked several Des Moines police officers who attended the services for Hyatt.
“Even though for much of her life she fought drug addiction, she was much loved by her family and friends - as is evidenced by all of you people being here today,” Laughlin said.
Hyatt was born in Council Bluffs, where her husband and children still live.
Laughlin said Hyatt loved writing music and liked to fish.
