MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island woman is being held on $1 million bond after she was arraigned on charges she suffocated her newborn baby and stuffed the body in a plastic bag.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1Tr35WX ) that 20-year-old Sharon Seudat was arraigned Saturday on a charge of second-degree murder.

Police were called to Seudat’s home in Glen Head on Thursday and found the community college student bleeding profusely.

Police say Seudat had given birth after hiding her pregnancy from her parents.

Investigators found the baby’s lifeless body in black plastic bag at the family’s home.

Nassau County Police Capt. John Azzata said the baby girl was born alive and Seudat suffocated her.

Newsday reports that several of Seudat’s family members appeared in court but they declined to comment.
