JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting a police officer in the arm.

The Florida Times-Union (https://goo.gl/Xdznsq) reports that 48-year-old Edward Jack Garvin was sentenced Friday. He was convicted in February of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and five counts of resisting an officer with violence.

Police confronted Garvin and his wife at a pawn shop in July 2013 after following reports of them pawning a large amount of items around town. Authorities say Garvin pulled a gun when officers tried to arrest him. The gun discharged during a struggle and grazed one officer’s arm.

Garvin’s wife and daughter had previously pleaded guilty to stolen property charges related to the case.
