ANGOLA, La. (AP) - Investigators at the Louisiana State Penitentiary are reviewing two cases of suicide that occurred at the facility Saturday morning.
According to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Corrections, 49-year-old Calvin Craddock was found dead in his cell at 5:33 a.m. He’d been serving a life sentence for aggravated rape from St. Tammany parish. Craddock had been at the penitentiary since 2006.
At 10:20 a.m. Terrance Carter was found dead in his cell. The 36-year-old, who had been at the penitentiary since 2009, was sentenced to death for first degree murder from Red River Parish.
Both deaths occurred at the Camp J housing unit, but in different parts.
There is no indication the incidents are related.
Both deaths are being investigated but preliminary information suggests all protocols were followed, the release said.
