BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Officials say a veteran corrections officer was seriously injured when an inmate attacked him at a New Jersey youth facility.
But it’s not clear what prompted the attack, which occurred around 7 a.m. Friday at the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in Bordentown Township.
Officials say the officer is a 10-year veteran. They say he was punched in the face and was knocked unconscious when his head hit the floor.
The officer was being treated at a hospital. But further details on his condition were not disclosed.
Officials say the officer will likely be on medical leave for an extended period.
The inmate was wrestled to the ground by other officers who suffered undisclosed injuries in the scuffle. It wasn’t clear if the inmate also was injured.
