PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - A Peoria man accused of wrapping a rope around his wife’s neck now is in custody.

Peoria police say 48-year-old Juan Borbon-Hurtado turned himself in to authorities on Friday.

Borbon-Hurtado is accused of driving his wife to an area of Peoria on March 30, where he took a rope and allegedly tried to strangle her.

She fought back and was able to escape and call police.

Borbon-Hurtado has been booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and kidnapping charges.

It was unclear Friday if he has a lawyer yet for his case.
