DETROIT (AP) - Three people have been killed after the SUV they were in struck a utility pole on a Detroit freeway embankment.

Michigan State Police say a preliminary investigation reveals that the driver was traveling at a very high rate of speed about 1 a.m. Saturday on eastbound Interstate 94 when the SUV left the freeway, hit the pole and then rolled bank onto the freeway.

The driver, front seat passenger and a person in the rear seat were thrown from the vehicle. A fourth person had to be removed from the SUV by firefighters.



Two people died at the scene, while a third person died at a hospital. One person was in critical condition Saturday at a hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
