ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a suspect has been shot after an officer exchanged gunfire with the person while conducting an investigation in Rochester.

It happened about 9 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Jay and Immel streets.

Police say the officer was conducting an investigation involving a vehicle when there was an exchange of gunfire.



They say the suspect - whose identity wasn’t immediately released - was seriously wounded, but was conscious and alert at a hospital. The officer was not injured.

Police say investigators were canvassing the area in search of a possible second suspect.

They did not provide further details.
