BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A program at the Alamance Battleground State Historic Site will examine teenage soldiers in the Confederate military during the final year of the Civil War.

During the program scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, young re-enactors will recreate their camp at the old battleground in 1865.

North Carolina formed the junior reserve in the final year of the Civil War to beef up the Confederate Army.

Teenage re-enactors from as far away as New York and Missouri will participate in the program.

The Alamance Battleground is the site of a 1771 battle between rebelling farmers and a colonial militia that was a precursor to the Revolutionary War. Although it typically deals with colonial history, the site manager says a junior reserve officer made note of camping on the battleground.
