ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - A seventh-grader from STAR Academy Homeschool in Rochester has won a statewide geography bee.

Lucas Eggers took top honors Friday in the state-level 2016 Geographic Bee at St. Cloud State University. He also won the state competition in 2014.

Eggers wins $100 and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent Minnesota in the national finals May 22-25.

Eighth-grader Tim Johnson from St. Croix Catholic in Stillwater took second place while seventh-grader Zeke Johnson from Nativity of Our Lord in St. Paul placed third.

The event is organized by the National Geographic Society.

The competition was open to students between fourth and eighth grade.
