ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Police in Rochester say an officer conducting a traffic stop has exchanged gunfire with a suspect, who was shot and seriously wounded.

Police Investigator Jackie Shuman tells the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that shots were fired during the traffic stop at around 9 p.m. Friday.

The officer wasn’t injured. The suspect was seriously injured but was conscious and alert at a hospital.

Police say investigators are canvassing the area in search of a second person who was in the vehicle.
