CHESTER, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont shelter for cats is being evicted by its longtime landlord and needs to find homes for dozens of felines.
Webster’s House animal shelter in Chester is also being investigated for a recent animal cruelty complaint, but shelter officials say its closing is related solely to the eviction.
The Eagle Times of Claremont, New Hampshire, reports (bit.ly/1pU3Yvb) that the shelter must close its doors by July 1.
Shelter manager Mary Donaldson says the shelter is currently doing health checks on its 39 cats, under an agreement with the Chester Police Department. The other option, she said, was closing immediately.
The shelter has existed under several different names since 2000 and is registered with the state, officials say.
