ST. GABRIEL, La. (AP) - A second guard in training at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center faces charges for trying to smuggle in drugs.

WBRZ-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Sei7hA ) 26-year-old Tierra Lewis of Port Allen was arrested Wednesday for introduction of contraband into a correctional facility and malfeasance in office. Twenty-nine-year-old Jessica Dedon also was arrested for smuggling tobacco, rolling papers, cell phones, chargers and alcohol into the jail.

A security supervisor says a suspicious package was discovered and when it was examined synthetic marijuana was found inside. Further investigation revealed that Lewis allegedly had discarded the package in the parking lot earlier as she reported for duty.

Lewis later told police she was bringing the drugs to an unidentified inmate who had paid her $200.

If convicted, Lewis could face up to 10 years behind bars.
