DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines man accused of crashing his car into a utility pole and killing his passenger has been convicted.

The Des Moines Register (https://dmreg.co/1r1jYMA ) reports that 24-year-old Troy Mure Jr. was convicted of vehicular homicide Tuesday in the death of 22-year-old Scalicity Boyd. Police say a vehicle driven by Mure crashed into a utility pole, ejecting and killing passenger Boyd in November.

Police say Mure told authorities that he was being chased by people inside a silver Cadillac. Mure said someone in the vehicle displayed a gun.

District Court Judge Paul Scott wrote in his ruling that evidence showed the gun was never fired during the chase, and that there were alternatives that would have allowed Mure to not drive recklessly.

Mure faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
