MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Manly woman has been given two years of probation for taking advantage of a disabled person at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that 46-year-old Kelly Rieffer was ordered to pay a $750 penalty and was given a deferred judgment. Under a deferred judgment, Rieffer’s conviction will be erased if she successfully completes probation. She’d pleaded guilty to one count of abuse of a dependent adult.

Police say Rieffer took gift cards from three dependent adults in her care last July and used them to buy items for herself.

Opportunity Village CEO Jeff Nichols says Rieffer no longer works there.
