ERIE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a suburban Cleveland man kidnapped an ex-girlfriend there, then broke into a randomly chosen home in Erie, Pennsylvania, and critically injured a homeowner before a neighbor shot the suspect.

Twenty-five-old Kyle Johnson, of Warrensville Heights, is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault in Pennsylvania. He’s being held in Erie on $500,000 bail.

Online court records don’t indicate whether he has an attorney.

Police say Johnson kidnapped 23-year-old Brandi Shakir Monday in Oakwood Village and had her in his car trunk when he broke into a home in an upscale Erie neighborhood Tuesday.

Police allege Johnson assaulted a 58-year-old homeowner and her 51-year-old husband. The woman was in critical condition Thursday.

Police say a neighbor heard cries for help and shot Johnson. He was treated and arrested.
