LINDENHURST, N.Y. (AP) - Police say an electrical issue in a wall-mounted air conditioner is being blamed for sparking a fast-moving blaze that damaged five houses on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say the fire started on E. Santa Barbara Road in Lindenhurst just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday and spread to four nearby homes. The embers from the blaze also touched off a brush fire across the canal on Indian Island County Park.

Officials say it took about 200 firefighters from nine departments to control the blaze.

Two firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and one was hospitalized. There were no other injuries.
