HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Huntington man has been arrested after his mother says she was brutally beaten by her son until her dog intervened.

Media outlets report police arrested 27-year-old Shannon Overstreet on Monday after his mother says he punched her several times on the ground outside her residence.

The woman says she had already filed a domestic violence petition against Overstreet when he came to her house on April 12.

After confronting him on the property, Overstreet’s mother says he pushed her to the ground and punched her several times across the body.

The victim says her dog came between the two, and Overstreet fled.

He is charged with felony malicious assault and a misdemeanor domestic violence petition violation following the incident.

It isn’t immediately clear if Overstreet has an attorney.
