ARVADA, Colo. (AP) - An explosion heard for 10 blocks is believed to have destroyed a mailbox with a pipe bomb on Thursday.

Arvada police spokeswoman Jill McGranahan said police got calls about 2:30 a.m. about a loud explosion, but were unable to track down the source. About 7 a.m., someone reported a mailbox had been destroyed in front of an abandoned supermarket west of downtown Arvada, a Denver suburb.

McGranahan said the blast left a debris field of about 100 feet.

No injuries were reported and the U.S. Postal Service has been called in to investigate.
