EVERETT, Mass. (AP) - An Everett police officer has shot and killed a man who authorities say drew a knife on him.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s office says the officer responded Thursday afternoon to a report of a man harassing pedestrians.

When he arrived on the scene, authorities say the man pulled out a knife and approached the officer.

Witnesses say the man ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon, and continued to move toward the officer. That’s when authorities say the officer shot him.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The officer was not hurt. He has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
