AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) - State officials are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Austin.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says two Austin police officers and a Mower County sheriff’s deputy responded to a 911 call about a motorist driving erratically about 8 p.m. Wednesday. The driver sped away when he spotted officers.
Authorities began pursuing the driver who stopped, put his vehicle in reverse and rammed one of the squad cars. The officer in that squad shot the man. Officials say the driver again tried to flee but was stopped by a sheriff’s deputy.
The driver was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Austin and then to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester where he’s being treated for a non-life threatening injury. No officers were injured. The Austin who fired his or her weapon is on administrative leave.
