LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve arrested a teenager who set a southwest Florida brush fire that spread to 50 acres and destroyed a home.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports in a news release that the 15-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with arson. Investigators say the boy had been playing with a lighter in a sparsely-developed area of Lehigh Acres earlier Wednesday when he started the blaze.

Officials say dozens of people had to be evacuated for several hours as fire departments from Lee, Collier and Hendry counties worked to prevent the fire from spreading.
