MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Latest on the scandal fallout involving Gov. Robert Bentley (all times local):

5:20 p.m.

State Auditor Jim Zeigler says he is ordering Gov. Robert Bentley to testify before him about state funds and if they were used to facilitate a relationship with a former top staffer.

It is unclear if the state auditor - who has often clashed with Bentley - has any power to enforce such an order. The governor’s office did not have an immediate response.

Zeigler, citing a section of state code that allows him to get testimony regarding state accounts, on Thursday ordered Bentley to appear before him on May 2. Zeigler said he wanted to the governor to bring documents, and answer questions about 11 areas including state cellphone use and travel records.

Bentley has admitted to making inappropriate remarks to former staffer Rebekah Caldwell Mason, but has denied accusations of an affair.

Zeigler said he wanted to get answers.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley doesn’t mind the House of Representatives establishing an impeachment investigatory committee.

Bentley on Thursday said he has “no problem” with a general committee but “there’s never been any reason” for legislators to call for his impeachment.

Republican Rep. Matt Fridy on Wednesday introduced a resolution that would trigger an investigatory committee any time 10 or more lawmakers sign articles of impeachment against a state official.

Fridy says his resolution is “directed generally” at the impeachment process, not at Bentley.

Bentley last month admitted making inappropriate remarks to a senior political advisor, who has since resigned. He denies misuse of his office.

Legislators realized there was no mechanism to handle potential impeachments after a group of legislators dropped articles of impeachment against Bentley.
