CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. (AP) - Twelve members of the New York Army National Guard are taking part in a statewide warrior competition.
The three-day Best Warrior Competition starts Thursday at Camp Smith in the Hudson Valley and it includes the guard’s top 12 soldiers and non-commissioned officers.
The competition tests soldiers’ physical fitness, military knowledge, endurance, marksmanship and navigation skills.
Soldiers who win at Camp Smith will go on to compete against Army Guard soldiers from around the nation. Those winners will compete against soldiers in the active Army and the U.S. Army Reserve.
