NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Xavier University of Louisiana is looking for a new men’s basketball coach.

The university said Thursday that 46-year-old Dannton Jackson has left to become an assistant coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Director of Athletics and Recreation Jason Horn thanked Jackson for his service and wished him well. In 13 seasons, Jackson compiled a 294-130 overall record, making him the winningest coach in the program’s history.

Jackson also served as Xavier’s assistant men’s basketball coach from 1998-2002, assistant women’s basketball coach from 1993-97, head coach of men’s and women’s cross country and interim athletic director. He also served one season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Virginia State University.

Horn says Xavier will conduct a national search to find a replacement for Jackson.
