CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a school bus from Georgia and an SUV in Clearwater.

Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw says in a statement that 45-year-old Jamin Carter of Clearwater was driving the SUV on Thursday afternoon when it struck a pole and hit the bus head-on.

Carter and the school bus driver, 22-year-old Brett Taylor of Axson, Georgia, were taken to a hospital. Carter remains in critical condition. Taylor was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Officials say the students from Pearson Elementary in Atkinson County, Georgia, weren’t on the bus and were at Clearwater Marine Aquarium when the crash occurred. They were taken home on a charter bus.

An attendant on the bus wasn’t hurt.
