MIDDLETON, Wis. (AP) - Authorities say two girls have been struck in Dane County by a truck that had fled from law enforcement.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday that a deputy saw a truck driving erratically and speeding in the town of Westport, and that the deputy tried to make a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop.

The release says the pursuit was terminated as the suspect vehicle approached Middleton, and minutes later the vehicle hit and injured two juvenile female pedestrians in Middleton.

The sheriff’s office says the girls were taken to a hospital and the extent of their injuries was not known. Authorities say a suspect was taken into custody and was being treated.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the incident.
