PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) - The Coast Guard’s 5th District in Portsmouth is getting a new commander.
Rear Adm. Meredith L. Austin is taking over as commander for Rear Adm. Stephen P. Metruck, who has led the district for two years.
A change-of-command ceremony will be held Friday. Adm. Paul F. Zukunft will preside over the ceremony at the Nauticus Museum in Norfolk.
Austin most recently served as deputy commander for the Coast Guard Pacific Area. In her new role, she will oversee waters from Long Beach, New Jersey to the North and South Carolina border.
