WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - A former teacher’s aide at a suburban Philadelphia school is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.

Twenty-six-year-old Christine Towers was arraigned Thursday on charges of institutional sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of minors.

Chester County prosecutors say authorities received a report on Monday accusing the Phoenixville woman of having the inappropriate relationship. Investigators say the student said he first met her at Conestoga High School during the 2015-16 school year when Towers was tutoring him one-on-one and was in a sexual relationship with her.

Tredyffrin/Easttown School District officials say she worked in the district from September 2014 through February 2016.

Defense attorney Cary McClain says Towers wasn’t a teacher’s aide at the time of the allegations and maintains her innocence.
