HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police in Hartford are investigating after Chompers, one of two mascots for minor league baseball’s Hartford Yard Goats, was knocked down while walking in the city.

Team spokesman Jeff Dooley tells The Hartford Courant (https://cour.at/26ie4a4 ) that a prankster pushed over a man dressed in the mascot costume Wednesday night as he was walking near Main Street after a local appearance.

Dooley says a car drove by the mascot, stopped and someone ran out and pushed him down. The man inside the suit, who wasn’t identified, wasn’t injured.

The Yard Goats were playing that night in New Hampshire, but mascots Chompers and Chew Chew, don’t travel with the team.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley says he wouldn’t characterize the incident as an attack, but police are investigating.
