SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a traffic stop on Interstate 15 in Lehi escalated into a standoff that ended when a Taser was used to subdue the 76-year-old suspect.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce says a trooper had pulled over the man for driving erratically Wednesday.
Royce says the suspect, who had reportedly been driving uninsured and had a suspended license, became uncooperative and refused to step out of his vehicle.
A SWAT team had been called to the scene and was able to get inside the man’s pickup truck.
Royce says the suspect was shocked with a Taser and taken into custody.
Traffic on I-15 had been diverted around the scene during the nearly three-hour standoff.
The suspect faces several charges, including unsafe lane travel and obstruction of justice.
